Bella’s Halloween Orange
Under the orange night sky, there was a girl walking along a path illuminated by diamonds scattered like stars. She followed a pumpkin ghost glowing in a vivid red hue, blending with the brightest backdrop of the world. Bella wanted to grab the pumpkin ghost’s cloak. The cloak shimmered like a galaxy, and her eyes were drawn to it, wanting to hold onto it.
However, Bella was a timid child, afraid of angering the pumpkin ghost, who was the owner of her own little galaxy. So she simply lightly pulled on the cloak and continued to follow behind the pumpkin ghost.
Time didn’t seem to pass much for Bella as she followed the light of the galaxy shimmering from the pumpkin ghost’s cloak. After a while, Bella arrived at the pumpkin ghost’s village, where the light from the village was even brighter than the sparkling galaxy light from the cloak.
It seemed as though Bella had discovered a light in the village that shone even brighter than the shimmering galaxy light from the cloak. However, Bella soon realized that although the light from the pumpkin ghost’s cloak and the light from the village were different in color, they were both shining in the same way.
Bella understood that the shimmering galaxy light from the cloak was actually shining because of her own light. She could vaguely sense that there was a barrier preventing her from fully understanding the emotions she had just experienced. The Pumpkin Ghost knew that a child had been following them even before they arrived in the village.
The child seemed to have a liking for the Pumpkin Ghost’s cloak. The Pumpkin Ghost didn’t seem to dislike the child either. Upon entering the Pumpkin Ghost’s village, they briefly wondered if it was the right thing to bring the child along, considering the rule that no outsiders were allowed in the village. But upon seeing the child’s bright demeanor, the Pumpkin Ghost wanted to go with them. So, the Pumpkin Ghost entered the village with the child.
In truth, the Pumpkin Ghost was the only one who remembered the rule that no outsiders were allowed in the Pumpkin Ghost Village. But they kept it to themselves and now, no one else knew about the rule. Once the Pumpkin Ghost arrived in their village with the child, they headed towards their home together. However, the child wanted to explore the Pumpkin Ghost Village and eventually decided not to follow the Pumpkin Ghost to their house.
‘Pumpkin Ghost, can you go without me? Right?’
‘Why are you not saying anything?’
‘Leave me here and go.’
The child spoke a few more words to the Pumpkin Ghost, but with no response, they quickly gave up and decided to explore the Pumpkin Ghost Village on their own.
The Pumpkin Ghost pondered whether they should take the child home with them or leave them behind. But realizing that it was the Halloween season and there were no other Pumpkin Ghosts in the village, they quietly watched the child wandering around the Pumpkin Ghost Village.
Bella, looking at the Pumpkin Ghost Village, wondered where she should go. Whichever way she went, the Pumpkin Village was adorned with elegant lights that would surely captivate Bella’s gaze. After briefly organizing her thoughts, Bella decided to walk along the orange river that she could see from the Pumpkin Ghost’s house.
While walking along the peaceful riverbank, Bella found a pumpkin-shaped boat that could be used to sail down the river. It was written that the boat would automatically operate if you gave it a gem. Bella didn’t need to despair at the fact that she couldn’t drive the boat herself or that there was no crew to drive it for her.
Excited, Bella tried to take out a gem to put into the pumpkin-shaped boat, but soon realized that she didn’t have any gems. She felt disappointed. That’s when something amazing happened right in front of Bella’s eyes.
Among the small, sparkling lights that were floating around the Pumpkin Ghost Village, one of them turned into a gem in Bella’s hand. Witnessing this scene, Bella suddenly wondered if this gem was the one that should be put into the pumpkin-shaped boat. Curious, she threw the gem into the pumpkin-shaped boat. Then, a gem spilled out from the bottom of the pumpkin-shaped boat.
The boat started to row as if it was about to depart. Bella climbed onto the pumpkin-shaped boat and admired the majestic interior while looking at the flowing riverbank. Lost in thought, Bella remembered that the sparkling lights floating around the Pumpkin Ghost Village would turn into gems when held in her hand.
Pumpkin Ghost looked back at the spot where Bella used to be and reminisced about the memories of the past.
Knowing that it wasn’t easy for someone to follow along, Pumpkin Ghost remembered how it used to answer the curious questions of a curious child from the past. The child was inquisitive and asked many things, and Pumpkin Ghost enjoyed answering the child’s numerous inquiries. The child liked it, and Pumpkin Ghost liked that the child liked it.
In that long and fleeting moment of exchanging questions and answers, when it was about to end, Pumpkin Ghost responded to one of the child’s questions with, ‘They are encoded in time, in the expression of time.’
Pumpkin Ghost couldn’t remember the child’s question, but it vividly remembered its own response.
At that moment, Pumpkin Ghost was aware that it couldn’t recall the child’s question, but it didn’t know that there was another thing it couldn’t remember.
Looking at Bella, Pumpkin Ghost was momentarily lost in nostalgia, thinking of the child from the past. The beloved hometown.
The child Pumpkin Ghost had encountered in the past was the first child it met in its hometown. Pumpkin Ghost had met many children in its hometown, and even after that, it occasionally encountered children who came looking for it, sharing stories of their encounters in its hometown.
Whenever the time was right, Pumpkin Ghost would meet the children who came looking for it. And now, it had met Bella. Pumpkin Ghost seemed to have organized its thoughts, thinking about what stories it would share with Bella.
Meeting Bella after a long time, Pumpkin Ghost thought of the child who first came looking for it and decided to tell Bella their story.
The style of that child, who has now become a mentor to many, has been described as “a river flowing with gold” by another child who wrote De natura deorum, On the Nature of the Gods.
Pumpkin Ghost pondered how it would tell this story to Bella. It was always saddened by the fact that it didn’t have a voice. As always, it would go through the cumbersome process and could only hope that Bella would understand and listen to its story.
